Audience

In class today we where focussing on the audience and there purpose in the media. Audiences seek out genres that they enjoy and genres are used to appeal to a specific audience.

    • Audience: Can have different reactions to different media texts
    • Preferred Reading: How the creator wants the audience to view the media text
    • Oppositional Reading: Where the intended meaning of the text is totally opposed by the reader
    • Demographic: A way categorising the population by age, money and occupation

What is an audience?
Anyone who consumes a piece of media.

Most media texts work to the principal of being a success is either
    • Generate money
    • Attract as large audience as possible
What affects the way in which an audience responds to a media text?

    • Gender
    • Culture
