Ghost Ship

                                                 In class we recently analysed the first scene of 'Ghost Ship' and the effects which have been used by the director to grab the audiences attention.
We start of by seeing a lonely isolated boat, which has the connation to the Titanic this use of intertextuality provides the reader with a pre conception that everything is not all it seems. The violin strings unknowingly to the reader foreshadow the wire which kills everyone in this scene. The singer is in a very visual red dress this semiotic has connotations to death and evil foreshadowing the upcoming blood shed she is also elevated from everybody else making her more superior. She also does very vigorous and aggressive hand gestures through her performance again foreshadowing the ending.
The music used in this scene is very upbeat and romantic which diverts the reader from the horror that is about to come. The music then changes to a screeching muffled noise the classic horror film music creating more confusion. The flowers shown in this clip represent life, innocent and beauty and is the only natural object on the boat.
The fast camera movements suggest how things are beginning to spin out of control building the tension. The focus on the wire literally slices the  screen in half. Some points in the slaughter we are with the camera giving a visual effect. There is an deathly silence and a tableau prolonging the tension when finally a wine glass falls breaking the silence creating a dramatic effect. At the end the camera dips back into the water creating a circular structure.

Movie Scene Pictures

The genre of this photo is period drama. Using me in the centre of the camera shot, makes me the main focus. Wearing clothing that is very long and covered up, shows how women in the Victorian times are meant to be portraying the old period drama shot that we were trying to achieve. The use of the white umbrella conveys how women are pure and innocent. I turned down the brightness and colour down to create a more 'olden' day effect. 









This photo of Molly was taken to represent a musical. The use of Molly as the main shot looking excited and happy juxtaposed with the isolated bin in the background shows the two stereotypical groups in many musicals set in predominantly American high schools.The use of the bright pink microphone stands out in the photo and portrays the bright and fun aspect of musicals. 

This photo was set out to represent adventure. The mid-action shot that Mollie is in, shows the fast pace and danger that adventure movies set out too achieve. The use of the camera angle behind Mollie, allows you to see everything around her but makes you unaware of what is behind her creating an uncomfortable feel of the not knowing. The use of the fence is the danger aspect of this photo which all adventure films have. Mollies unbalanced posture creates tension and threat.

Harry Styles Sign Of The Times

Genre: Pop
This video is from Harry Styles, this nearly 6minute ballad is Harrys first ever solo single from his recent split from the boyband One Direction. The first minute of this video, begins with a simple C major arrangement so the main focus is the lyrical choices.
The genre of this music video is pop even though most of his singles on his album including 'Sign of the times' and 'Kiwi' sound predominately rock indie his persona from his One Direction roots will never leave him so he is classed as pop.
The start video shows Harry from all angles making him the frontman of the camera shot the camera is mainly focussed on him with the background blurred, which entices the audience consequently making them watch right till the end. There is a clear relationship between the lyrics of this song and the music video as throughout the chorus' in the video Harry gets higher and higher above the earth, presenting him as this GOD like ominous character exaggerating the feeling and emotion which comes along with the song, portraying the message that this is a new Harry Styles again intriguing the audience more. Furthermore, at the beginning the camera shot is very unfocussed but you can tell the shot is of Harry, this builds more suspense as the audience is anticipating this final reveal.
Harry is walking forward throughout this video showing how his leaving his past behind and focussing on his future which some people could view as a final goodbye to his One Direction days. He also looks very lost and bewildered which the director purposely done to metaphorically show how Harry is finally out of hiding and is back.
The outfit choice in this video is very smart almost prince like which has connotations to wealth and achievement but the normal country background juxtaposes this 'perfect' image that Harry is portraying showing that he is just a normal person. The close zoom on Harrys eyes makes the audience emotionally connect with the video as you feel physically connected with the lyrics.
